Taylor Knox talks modern surfing and his love of coffee | CONVERSATIONS
In this specific episode of “conversations” we catch up with Taylor Knox, Longtime core-lord power surfer and Elliott Reinecke, a man who owns a wonderful coffee shop by the name of Steady state in Carlsbad. These two had already known each other quite well before this conversation as Elliott had not only made TK a lot of coffee but had worked with him on his surfboard fins while on tour. Taylor is a great person to have a cup with. We all met at where Elliott roasts all the coffee for his store and got a batch going and slowly caught up on surfings current state, good coffee, and life lessons from Captain America. Hope you enjoy! Thank you to both Taylor and Elliott for taking to time to have a conversation.
SURFBOARDS WITH TWO FINS
“Be careful with those boards dude, they will ruin your surfing.” I love surfing lowers on whatever board looks the weirdest nowadays. It truly is one of the best canvas in the world to try any and all equipment out. I grew up on a strict diet of refined rails and three fins trying to get every last bit of juice of each wave I would ride tho, so maybe the shock factor of needing to find something fresh out of lowers bummed this man out. I could see it in his eyes actually. Very genuine with his comment. Misguided in direction but caring none the less. Surfboards with 2 fins is exactly what it is. An edit based off of riding twin fins of any and all sizes and widths. Seems like twin fins are in. Especially ones that are as easy to turn as your generic thruster is. Almost consider boards like fishbeards and that realm of twin fins your gateway entry into something that might drift you from your thrusters. Do you love it? Go further. Get more classic with it. Go as far as you can until you can’t actually look good even going straight on the board because its hard as hell to ride. The spectrum of fish shapes is wide and long with an insane lineage of history behind each different kind of shape.
SASHIMI by Channel Islands | CRAIGSLIST BILL
Welcome to craigslist bill. The habit of buying and selling surfboards has always been for me. I love the excitement of new boards, shapes and colors. I like that some are old, some are new and great shape and others I don’t even know. I am a hoarder and am proud of it. On this episode we dive into a local find in a 90’s vintage Channel Islands model known as the SASHIMI. I always had grown up in love with Channel Islands obscure models, most of which were created with or for Rob Machado. I had only seen two of these in real life so I jumped on the opportunity. Turns out the person I buy the board from is named Chris Grant and shoots photos from the area. I traded him a surfboard that I was done using and we both walked away stoked. Long live craigslist…the gift that keeps giving. Sashimi- 5’8” x 19 3/4 x 2 3/8 good condition STOCK (originally for sale at 300 dollars)
